We all know how potholes plague our roads and so I was pleased that the Government gave North Northamptonshire Council an extra £3.26 million to fix the potholes, taking the total government funding to more than £12m for 2025/26.
In the first year after my election, 14,350 potholes were fixed, more than in each of the three years previous. I wrote to the previous leader of the council on two separate occasions regarding the repairs and asked serious questions regarding their road contractor, which were never fully answered.
Following the local elections, I wanted to give the new Reform council a chance to sort the potholes out. After 6 months had passed it was clear that they do not have a grip on it.
I was disappointed to see that North Northamptonshire was rated ‘amber’ for its overall performance on fixing the roads which is why I have offered both the leader and the portfolio holder, Government funded capability and planning support so that we can work together to sort these issues out.
